The Hero's Phenomenon in the Virtual Reality Context: the interrelation and social interaction in the MMORPG
This article discusses the digital body functioning in a virtual reality. The focus of the analysis - the practice of socialization, identity and social communication in the digital space. The main focus of the study is made on the interaction of a virtual hero and the digital body, because it is a completely new type of interaction. Examining the specifics of the virtual hero's impact on the recipient and the features of the interaction in the virtual space, we analyze in detail the phenomenon of multiplayer online games (MMORPG), because they combine both of these factors. For the first time in the history of culture, the interaction between the art hero and the recipient is immediate because of the transformation of bodility’ morphology and the formation of a digital body immersed in virtual space.
Between cyborg and larva: a vicious circle of post-humanism era’ human being
The article reveals the reasons and specificity of the transition to the posthumanism era. We consider the criticism of classical humanism and analyze the relationship between the concepts of "transhumanism" and "posthumanism." In the situation where a permanent identity is impossible and a person moves to a “current” “unstable” identity, the Imaginary becomes the main guideline of self-identification process. Human being doesn’t cope with the challenges of our time and is aware of his own inferiority. That’s why he tries to improve himself through the available bodimodifications. However, this process gives him a new panic attack over the potential loss of control over the body. Analyzing these processes, we turn to the most controversial and specific phenomena of popular culture – "body horror". This genre reveals the deep layers of consciousness, fears and insecurity of the human being of posthumanism era.
Transgenderism as a cultural phenomenon and its representation in art
We attempt a comprehensive analysis of transgender as a cultural phenomenon in this article. We can say that a "transgender revolution" happened in 2014–2015 and it leads to a radical transformation of the entire socio-cultural reality in our days. It’s possible to consider transgender as one of the mechanisms of self-defense, adaptation to rapidly changing environmental conditions and the self-identity formation. The last statement is considered through the focus of the queer theory, which denies the possibility of any kind of stable identity. There are the main approaches to the study of transgender in historical retrospect are presents in the article. Particular attention is paid to the representation of the transgender phenomenon in art. The article provides a detailed analysis of the movies, where we can see the transgender phenomenon representation, and we also propose temporary typology of plots and characters. We note that due to the active inclusion of transgender phenomenon in art, original mechanisms of the implementation of traditional conflicts are being developed, and appearing conflicts, that are completely new in the world art.
MECHANISMS OF SELF-ADAPTATION AS A CAUSE OF CULTURAL TRANSFORMATIONS
We can see the erosion of national borders and boundaries of the social body of the person in the information society and it’s the reason of developing personal defense mechanisms. But these adaptive, protective mechanisms are themselves a representation of the individual cultural experience. The purpose of this article - to analyze the ambivalent process of interaction of a person with severe traumatic dominant and socio-cultural environment. But we can’t create a protective mechanism that would not be a representation of our cultural experience. In the basis of any protective mechanism, which is characterized as "deviant behavior pattern", there are the traumatic dominant and the pathoplastic cultural effect. Our culture creates a conflict and a ways of adapting to it at the same time. Protective mechanisms are determined by the dominant culture and are legitimate since its inception, they perform the renovation function of culture.
The phenomenon of pain in the context of socio-cultural dynamics of the XXI century
The article is devoted to the analysis of the pain phenomenon and its role in the modern culture. We present the evolution of this phenomenon from antiquity to the present day, but more detailed dwelled on art and popular culture. The phenomenon of pain is fully involved in the process of identity constructing in the late XX - early XXI cent. Modern civilization excludes pain from everyday practice; in addition, the symbolization of pain leaves the sphere of art. This situation leads to the actualization of bodily practices, conjugate with the experience of pain. Pain returns personal boundaries and compensates for lack of experience. Painful physical sensations return a person to a state of "here and now", when all the rest of the world at the time experiencing the pain ceases to exist. We come to the conclusion that in connection with the inevitable erosion of borders in the postindustrial society and the prevalence of secondary experience over the primary, the appeal to cultural practices of the body, coupled with painful sensations, will be rapidly updated. Itself, these practices will become more diverse, their representation in art and popular culture will be popularized and form the mainstream. In addition, minority groups, based on these practices, will finally become part of everyday reality.
